Three Sisters Avalanche Course

Classmates dig a pit to study the snow layers. This photo looks east toward the Oregon High Desert.
I was lucky enough to spend my weekend in the Three Sisters Wilderness Area. This adventure was part of the Three Sisters Backcountry Aiare Level 1 Avalanche Safety Course. Being a rookie backcountry telemark skier, I spent a lot of time with my face in the midst of powder. However, the course was great and the weather perfect.  We spent much of our time ski touring around Tam McArthur Rim, a massive ridge feature in the wilderness area. This place is named after Lewis 'Tam' McArthur.  He was an executive at Pacific Power and Light Company and Secretary of the Oregon Geographic Board.
