South of the Border, Baja California Sur, Mexico

In the middle of October I  traveled south in route to the desert by the sea in Baja California Sur, Mexico. I flew into La Paz, BCS where I visited my friend Sam. Sam and his partner have started a series of community gardens in the La Paz community, which was very inspiring to witness. The land in this area is a tough place to grow food with sandy soils and little too no rain fall. After this visit I traveled up the peninsula to spend ten days sea kayaking in the Sea of Cortez.

The Kayak trip began in Bahia Concepcion near Mulege on the sea side. Eating cactus fruits, snorkeling, practicing kayak skills, meeting a new crew of friends, a visit to the town of Loreto, building kayak skills, laying eyes on an amazing generational tropical forest homegarden, and walking the beaches were each highlights of the journey. Here are is a map and a couple photos from the expedition.
